Pear Quarry

Gruszka Quarry – a closed quarry with a viewpoint on Wojcieszów.

Information

  • Gruszka Quarry is one of the inactive excavations of Wojcieszów limestone
  • the name of the quarry comes from the name of the former owners, the Gruschek brothers
  • in several quarries in Wojcieszów marble was mined, which adorns to this day the great buildings of Berlin built before World War II
  • from the city center (near the Office and Post Office) there is a marked educational path
  • at the bottom of the excavation there is a slightly neglected rest area with benches and a roof, it is also possible to make a bonfire
  • for many years the quarry was inhabited by Robert the Goat – a feral male domestic goat, who could often be found neatly jumping on the ledges. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been seen in a while.
  • nearby are also the ruins of the Gallows
  • for visiting the place you will receive a sticker to the Passport of the Discoverer of the Land of Extinct Volcanoes
